Blog Entry 39 - [FRUIT, BOOM!] Character Abilities and Outfits

Today Tim and I had a meeting, we planned more detail on the Live-Ops and discussed our opinions on the characters' abilities. I'll write about the characters now and will have another post on the Live-Ops.


As It will be meaningless if we have 6 characters but they are the same essentially. As a result, I suggested we should make the weapon cooldown time, and weapon damage different among the players, also each fruit should have its own unique skills. After having these, the player's choice of fruits can be meaningful.



The Characters' Details

After our meeting, we finally decide:

Mr Avocado

Profession: Repairman

Weapon: Glue gun

Attacking Method: Shooting glue

Attack cooldown: 2 seconds

Juice drop per attack: 10ml

Special Ability: Build a fixed platform(1x1 unit), 3 will exist at the same time. More than 3 will destroy the first one.

Note: Due to his profession as a repairman, it would be more convincing that he can build platforms. We also need to make sure that he is not too powerful, so we set the limits.



Miss Banana

Profession: Dancing Queen

Weapon: MP3 player

Attacking Method: Play notes

Attack cooldown: 1 second

Juice drop per attack: 5ml

Special Ability: Create an AI-controlled camouflage body that draws fire from other players, cooldown time 3 minutes.

Note: She is a dancing queen, so she can call one of her dancing sisters to the scene and confuse others. Again we need to limit her skills, so we set the ability's cooldown to 3 minutes.



Mrs Blueberry

Profession: Bartender

Weapon: Wine bottle

Attacking Method: Throw wine bottles

Attack cooldown: 3 seconds

Juice drop per attack: 15 ml

Special Ability: Throw a bottle to another player that makes his screen unclear for 5 seconds, cooldown time 2 minutes.

Note: As a bartender, she is able to use alcohol to fight against other players, with the special liquid made by her, she can make other players drunk, the cooldown is set to 2 minutes due to the unclear time for other players is 5 seconds.



Mr Coconut

Profession: Boxer

Weapon: Boxing gloves

Attacking Method: Throw boxing gloves

Attack cooldown: 0.5 seconds

Juice drop per attack: 2 ml

Special Ability: Destroy a platform (any platforms in the world, including Avocado's), 3 minutes cooldown.

Note: With the help of the boxing gloves and his muscles, he is able to destroy a platform in the world.



Mr Pineapple

Profession: Barber

Weapon: Hair dryer

Attacking Method: Blow wind

Attack cooldown: 1.5 seconds

Juice drop per attack: 7 ml

Special Ability: Generate a wind to push an enemy who is nearby 3 units away, 1-minute cooldown time.

Note: Wind is produced by the hair dryer, so it is also reasonable for him to blow the enemy some distance away.



Miss Watermelon

Profession: Ninja

Weapon: Seed gun

Attacking Method: Watermelon seeds

Attack cooldown: 2.5 seconds

Juice drop per attack: 12 ml

Special Ability: Invisible for 7 sec, 1-minute cooldown, if being shot or shooting, invisibility will end.

Note: Invisibility is one of Ninja's abilities, so it is fair for her to have it. As this is a strong skill, so the time of invisible and other limits are set.



Characters' Outfits

Previously, we were planning to have clothes for the characters. Today when writing GDD, I suddenly realised if we have the clothes, then it is possible that the players will be really tough to recognise with the clothes on. Therefore, I decided to change the clothes to small decorations. Here are some decorations that I found:
