Blog Entry 10 - [Four Me] The Plots

After drawing the level graph, I started to continue thinking about the specific things happening in the levels (places, characters, events). This might not be the final version as the design is at the beginning stage.


PLOT 1

1. Introduction of the background story

a. Characters: Bella (personality 1) and Molly (the original owner of the body)

b. Place: Molly's room (the room is full of Molly's stuff)

c. Event: The game starts from Molly's perspective and when she hears the front door open, she is too afraid so she faints. When she opens her eyes again, Bella comes out. She is confused, so she continues finishing the puzzle (a family photo with a huge black shadow on the father's position) on the table(player control). When she finishes the puzzle, the bedroom door will be knocked hard and Bella starts to run.

d. Player's action: help Bella to complete the puzzle


2. Bella is chased by a huge black shadow

a. Characters: Bella and the huge monster

b. Place: walkway of the house, towards the basement (narrow and long, the colour turns grey)

c. Event: Bella is chased by a monster (her father), the monster has many hands. At last, she hides inside a closet, and the monster locks her inside. Bella is very tired so she falls asleep.

d. Player's action: help Bella to avoid obstacles (such as hands along corridors)


3. Devin (personality 2) comes out

a. Characters: Bella, black shadow, a huge hand and Devin (personality 2)

b. Place: in a valley(Bella's dream world) - a blurry effect

c. Event: At first, the valley looks peaceful. suddenly, it starts to rain and the scene becomes dark and weird. Suddenly, a huge hand pushes her down the hill (impulse). There will be stones that have words on them falling. At last, Bella doesn't have the strength to run, she is hit by the stone and faints again. When she opens her eyes, Devin comes out.

d. Player's action: help Bella to avoid the rocks.


4. Devin runs away from the valley, back to the closet in the basement

a. Characters: Devin, black shadow

b. Place: long cave, in rain - silhouette style

c. Event: Devin uses his ability - to jump to pass through the obstacles. Finally, run into the puzzle(from the first scene) and back to the closet.

d. Player's action: help Devin to jump


At last, the screen will show all black, with the voice of Devin 'It's safe now'.

PLOT 2

1. Bella and Devin start the journey of chasing the lighthouse

a. Characters: Bella, Devin

b. Place: dark corridors

c. Event: When Bella wakes up inside the closet, she sees a poster hanging on the wall with guidance towards a lighthouse. so she goes on the journey (to escape from the horrible life right now).

d. Player's action: During the journey, the player needs to switch between Bella and Devin to pass the secret basements.


2. Wendy (personality 3) comes out

a. Characters: Wendy

b. Place: inside the secret basements

c. Event: While travelling, Bella comes to a place that has many small black shadows floating in the air. As both Bella and Devin don't know how to fight, Bella remembers the last time she falls asleep and she can avoid horrible things happening, so she closes her eyes again. Wendy is split out as she knows how to fight.

d. Player's action: use the ability to chase the shadows away


3. Continue the journey, and find out that the distance between the lighthouse and the player is not shortened

a. Characters: Bella, Devin and Wendy

b. Place: inside the secret basements

c. Event: the character finds out it's still a long way to the destination, as a result, she feels desperate. Inside one corridor, she finds a mural on the wall, a drawing that says only an integrated person can enter the lighthouse. It inspires her to start integrating with the other characters.

d. Player's action: complete the mural by rotating parts to their correct position

Plot 2 storyboard




PLOT 3

1. Bella goes to find Devin

a. Characters: Bella and Devin

b. Place: inside the house

c. Event: Bella finds a videotape on the table, so she put it inside the videotape player. Devin's video is played and leads Bella to go downstairs to find him.

d. Player's action: play the video and go downstairs


2. Bella and Devin are integrated

a. Characters: Bella and Devin

b. Place: in front of a mirror in the living room

c. Event: Bella finds Devin inside the mirror, she goes inside and starts the integration. After the integration, the character will own 2 skills (moving things and jumping, and also can control the view - as the integrated person is more than just the sum of the personalities)

d. Player's action: control Bella, and help with the integration. Chose Bella or Devin as the character appearance.


Plot 3 storyboard




PLOT 4

1. Back to the scenes in Level 1, defeat the black shadow

a. Characters: Bella, Wendy

b. Place: Corridors and the valley from level 1

c. Event: 'It's time to fight the memories now'. Bella and Wendy go back to the scenes. they will jump above the closets and let the flying hands block the black shadow (monster). Also, they jump on the big rocks with words on them to let the rocks fall on the monster. At last, the monster dies.

d. Player's action: control Bella and Wendy to defeat the monster



2. Wendy is integrated, and Molly is back

a. Characters: Bella and Wendy

b. Place: in a dream, a spotlight and door, darkness

c. Event: When the huge monster is dead, Bella closes her eyes with satisfaction. She enters a dream where Wendy's world is projected above her head. As she moves, Wendy also moves. They open the door and see the lighthouse, so they walk inside. When she wakes up again, Molly's perspective will show. Warm sunshine inside the bedroom and the puzzle will show Molly and her mother smiling, the huge black shadow has disappeared.

d. Player's action: help with the integration
