Blog Entry 12 - [Four Me] The Levels Rough Plan

In previous stages of this design, it was all about the stories. So I decided to change the previous 'levels' into plots, which means the story plot can be divided into 4 parts (2 with the theme of struggle and 2 with the theme of redemption, corresponding with the colours blue and orange). Today I started adding more actual levels to the game.



The Props

I started by using stars (image at left) (there is also a star on top of the lighthouse) as props to unlock the storylines. For example, it is planned to have 5 general levels and the player can find 3 stars in each level. When they got 5 stars, they can unlock the plot where find out how to get Bella and Devin integrated. Similarly, 13 stars to make Bella and Wendy integrated. Finally, there will be an ending level about arriving at the lighthouse and ending the journey (and game).

The Levels

here are the level names and content that I come up with in this stage, I will probably merge some of them and at the end have around 5 levels. The ideas are not in order, I will decide on the order after the 5 levels are selected.


1. THE CURSE

a. a loop, the player can't reach the end at a first glance

b. they have to break the rules to get through this level


2. THE MAZE

a. colourful maze, with many tunnels

a. each tunnel, will lead to a different space with a mood


3. THE WHIRLPOOL

a. circle shaped, all the way to the bottom

b. the further (deeper) you walk, the larger the space is

c. a feeling of deep ocean? feel the player is really small


4. THE STEPS/ LONG WAY TO GO

a. spaces generated by staircases

b. staircase in different angles, upside down spaces?


5. THE BUBBLE

a. circle, half circle

b. translucent, transparent materials

c. colours can be added


6. THE GREY SPACE

a. the level comprised of grey spaces (the space in between open space and closed space) - this one is a little difficult to make


7. THE CONFUSION

a. colourful light & colourful shadows

b. confused paths


8. THE SANCTUARY

a. the players need to avoid seeing the monsters (black shadows)

b. can use walls and objects that can let the players hide to arrange the level


9. THE TWIST

a. all the spaces are in a wired shape

b. irregular walls, floors and ceilings


10. THE EXPOSURE

a. the players need to keep walking inside the shaded area (can't expose to the sun)


11. THE UNCERTAIN

a. the whole scene is in an uncertain form (has a lot of materials including translucent glass, and at the same time, has many uncomplicated objects and some confused paths)
