After we decided to have the 'bad guy' in our game, I found out that the design purpose of our game has been changed, from a fun party game into a game that needs players to always consider who is the 'bad guy'. I felt a little confused so I continued thinking about this game mechanic and the whole game design.
After that, I talked to Tim and suggested we need to figure out what is our main goal as a designer and what kind of feelings we want to provide to the players. I think this is a very important question to ask ourselves before we design the game. If we don't consider this, then the game we designed will not have a clear meaning.
Then we had another conversation about this and we all agreed we should think about this question again. At the time when we discussed this, we had 2 modes (player vs. player & team vs. team), for the player vs. player mode which we decided to make the prototype, the mechanic is players collect the juice at the same time while finding the 'bad guy', I then suggested maybe we can separate this one mode into two modes, one is purely for fun and the other is find the 'bad guy' mode. Therefore, by splitting the original mode into 2 different modes, we are actually creating 2 kinds of experience for the players, they are able to choose which one they want to experience more.
As a result, now we have 3 modes (for the first release), they are player vs. player mode (only juice collecting and shooting), Bad guy mode (1v5 or 2v10...finding who the bad guy is) and team vs. team mode.
Player vs. Player Mode:
map for 3-6 players
each player represents one fruit
only making juice by shooting other fruit players and fighting for themselves
don't need to think much because this mode is just for fun!
Bad Guy Mode:
map for 6-12 players
the bad guy has all 5 skills
the good guys have 1 skill
The good guys' skills will change each 30 sec (randomly assigned by the game system) - the system picks 1 from all the 5 skills that the bad guy has
in the end, players will have a 1-minute discussion and vote for the bad guy
Team vs. Team Mode:
Consider not 2v2 (can also be 3v3v3 or 4v4v4 or 5v5v5, not decided yet)
weapons and skills are disabled, pure crowding, crowding out others (people who are squeezed out will fall off the stage directly, squeezed into juice by the blade, and present in the form of juice in a few seconds. Players can now control themselves as the juice, the fruit people that touch the juice will immediately accelerate - you can use this acceleration to help your teammates bump into others or let the opponents fall off the stage and become juice)
The winner is the team who stayed until the last in the form of fruit
