This week, I started to design different personalities. As I've finished reading the novel <The Minds of Billy Milligan> ( The book was based on a true story, Billy Milligan, which is the number one felony in the history of America who was not guilty because he had DID. There are 24 different personalities in his mind and those personalities can interact with each other), some academic readings about DID, so I decided to design my characters first.
The Personalities
The Main Character
Name: Molly
Gender: Female
Age: 18
Characteristics: Sensitive, timid, scared, no confidence
As discussed in a paper, DID is mainly caused by traumatic and repetitive events during childhood. As a result, the main character will be a girl who has an extremely sensitive heart (this can also prove that she is one of the people who are prone to mental illness). Due to the abuse and neglect, she will split into many other personalities.
The First Personality
Colour Theme: Pink (likes dolls, dolls act as a friend to her)
Movement: Lively at first, then sluggish
This is the first personality Molly splits. When she first was abused at 11, Bella comes out.
The Second Personality
Colour Theme: Blue (likes the space, wish to fly freely)
Movement: Slowly when walking, active when feet leave the ground
From the academic resources, I learnt that usually there will be one personality that is split out for the purpose of suffering all the pain for the main character. As a little girl, she always wanted to have an older brother to protect her in this painful situation. As a result, this 13-year-old boy has been created.
The Third Personality
Colour Theme: White, black and grey(Summarize the colourful world into unity)
Movement: Steady
There will be an ISH (inner self-helper) in each person with DID. This kind of character knows every personality). A mom-aged person will also act as an external communicator among all those characters. The colour theme of white, black and grey may also act as rational and unify.
The Integrated Personality
Name: Molly
Gender: Female
Age: 18
Characteristics: All combined
Colour Theme: Colourful (with many colours, no specific colour theme)
Ability: Move things, jump, chase unwanted things away
Movement: Active
From the book <The Minds of Billy Milligan>, there will be a 'teacher' liked personality that comes out. It represents the integration of all the different personalities. This integrated character will have all the abilities of the personalities but not as good as them.
The Story Structure

The story will start with personality 1 (the little girl). In level 1, the girl will find herself in a bedroom which owns by another girl (the actual girl who owns the body), and suffer from some emotional abuse and the second personality will come out, this part is a little climax where the player found they can control different characters. The third personality will appear near the end of level 2, as the mood of the characters become lower (by using space and colours to tell player, make them feel the same), the story comes to its lowest point. Later on, the player will go on the trip of finding the light. During the journey, the player will find them difficult to get to the destination. In level 3, after the players realise that they will need help from other personalities, personality1 and 2 will be integrated. Last in level 4, when the character decides to fight against her memories and face straightly with the past, the story comes to the major climax where all the personalities are integrated.
